Choosing the right size linen for your wedding tables is more than just a matter of aesthetics—it’s about creating a cohesive and elegant look that complements your venue and enhances the dining experience. The right linen size can transform a table, setting the tone for your reception and ensuring that your décor is both functional and stylish. Whether you’re aiming for a classic, formal setting or a more relaxed, rustic vibe, understanding the dimensions and fit of your table linens is crucial. This guide will help you navigate the options and select the perfect linen size to make your tablescape as stunning as it is practical.

To choose the best linen for your tables, you need to consider three simple questions.

Firstly, what size and shape are your tables?
The Basic Formula

How to Determine Your Perfect Table Linen Size

Round

Width + Drop + Drop

  • To calculate the linen size for a round table, add the width and the drop you want to see.

Example for Round Table

  • Say you want a floor-length table linen for a 48″ round table with a standard 30″ height. You would add 48 + 30 + 30 to determine that you need a 108″ round linen.

Square or Rectangle

(Width + Drop + Drop) x (Length + Drop + Drop)

  • Add the table width and the drop you want to see on each side to quickly calculate the linen size you need.

Example for Rectangle Table

  • Say you want a floor-length table linen for a 6-foot rectangle table with a standard 30″ height.
  • For the width, you would add (30+30+30), and for the length, you would add (60+30+30) to determine you would need a 90″ x132″ rectangle linen.
Secondly, what length of linen do you want?

For formal occasions like weddings, floor-length linens are advisable to create an elegant and sophisticated look. For more relaxed events, using lap-length linens is a budget-friendly option that still exudes a stylish vibe.

And lastly, what is your budget?

The cost of renting linens varies based on fabric, size, quantity, and rental duration. Tablecloths can range from $16 up to a few hundred dollars. Additional items like napkins and table runners have varying costs. Understanding pricing and options is important for budgeting and achieving your desired event aesthetic.

Once you have answered these questions, you can determine the size of linen you will need for each table. To make this process easier, we have asked Grand Central Party Rental to explain the different table sizes, their typical usage, and the linen size that works best for each table.

BISTRO/HIGH BOY TABLES

Bistro or high-boy tables, also known as cocktail tables, are typically used during cocktail hour or in an area where guests will be drinking and/or eating appetizers only. Although they can be used for seating, guests typically stand at them.

ROUND TABLES

SERPENTINE TABLES

Your florals and attire aren’t the only ways you can make a statement on your big day. Consider using serpentine tables at your reception to “wow” your guests and stand out among traditional weddings. These curved tables can be put together to create a visually stunning and unique look that works well in almost any kind of venue.

Two to three people can be seated at one serpentine section  Since serpentine tables are a specialty table, we recommend contacting the rental company to determine how many tables you need for your guest count and the size of linen you need for the drop you desire.
