Tell us a little bit about you and how you got started!
I have always been intrigued with the UK. I am a lifelong collector/hoarder of antiques, and British things populate much of my collection. I actually have a red British phone box in my front yard that was originally in Liverpool. It really began when I was a kid in the ’60s & ’70s watching British TV shows that came on PBS back then. I was especially intrigued by the cars. They looked so different from US models, and the steering wheel was on the other side.
When my son, Lewis graduated from high school, we took a trip to England and Scotland, where I fell in love with British taxis. Having worked in the black car and limousine industry for several years, I always thought that one day I would buy a London cab. A few years ago, my wife suggested that I was too old to keep riding motorcycles and insisted that I sell mine. I agreed, but I told her that I would buy a taxi instead. I originally planned for it to be just a fun vehicle to drive on my days off.
After extensive internet research, I found Jasper, our 1998 LTI TX1 London Cab. I am also a Jack Daniel’s collector, so I knew it had to be mine. Shortly after it arrived, I got a call from a fellow collector asking if we could provide getaway service for his wedding in Jasper. People loved it. I saw a business opportunity.

While I am not mechanically inclined, Lewis is a total gearhead. He owns a mobile mechanic service and has worked as a chauffeur. We decided to partner up and pursue this business. When we saw photos of Daimler DS420 limousines being used in England for weddings, we knew Nashville needed to have these vehicles. I contacted the buyer, who procured Jasper for us, and asked him to find one for us. He found Diana. That was in November of 2023. I wired him the money, but there was a hiccup with the wire transfer, so I ended up sending a second one. I told him to hang onto the first payment for a future purchase. He called me almost immediately and said that he had already found another one, Winston. Winston arrived here in December of 2023. Diana remained in England to undergo restoration. She was finally ready in February of this year, but because of the new tariffs, there were no vehicle-carrying ships available. She finally set sail in May and arrived here a few weeks ago. Next week, Diana will debut at her first wedding in Tennessee.

What sets you apart from other limousine services?
We have some of the rarest vehicles available in the state. Jasper is the only London taxi in Middle Tennessee available for chauffeur service and the only Jack Daniels branded London taxi in the United States. Both Winston and Diana are Daimler DS420 limousines, the only two in the state of Tennessee, and Diana is one of two convertibles in the country. Currently, there are fewer than 400 of these limos registered in the UK. Beyond that, they have a timeless style that is unmatched. They are simply regal. Winston was originally used by the British royal family. Diana was custom-built to the original purchaser’s specifications. Most transportation companies provide late-model black SUVs and Sedans. We believe that on your wedding day, you deserve to have once-in-a-lifetime memories. Every bride is a princess and deserves to travel like one.

What services do you offer?
All of our vehicles are available for getaways or hourly bookings. We also offer full- or half-day packages. We always arrive 30 minutes before pickup, so there is plenty of time for photos. We provide bottled water, an ice bucket, ice, and champagne flutes. We also decorate the vehicle in traditional British wedding ribbon. Both limousines are official diplomatic vehicles and, as such, have diplomatic flagpoles. The cars can come with or without the flags, but they look amazing with them. We have British, Scottish, and Tennessee state flags. If a client would like a flag from another country, we can get them from almost any country in the world, and there is no charge, as we will probably use them again in the future. We can also have flags made with a custom message or image. There is a charge for those, but they will be presented to the couple at drop-off. We can also have custom vanity plates on the vehicle with their last name or the date on it. Most countries are available, but the UK is the most popular. There is a $50 charge for the plates, which covers our cost. We present the plate to the couple at drop-off. People love them.

What do you enjoy most about working in the wedding industry?
While we lived in Brazil, I was a wedding officiant. I am an ordained minister, and I have worked with a lot of wedding planners, so I am very familiar with the industry. I have also worked with many planners through my Black Car Service here. The people I have worked with, both here and in Brazil, are some of the nicest and caring people I have ever met. I don’t believe anyone does this for the money, although that is important. Most of us truly want to make a couple’s wedding day as special and memorable as possible.
What’s your favorite part of a wedding day?
Seeing the attention that the couple gets as we drive down the road. People on the street cheer and shout “Woo Hoo” at them. They also get a lot of unsolicited marriage advice from people on the sidewalk or other cars when we stop at red lights. Every time at drop-off, they tell us they don’t want to get out of the car. It is magical.
What is your favorite part of working with couples?
Seeing the joy on their faces as they realize they are finally married. In the car, they talk about their hopes, dreams, and their future together.
One piece of advice for couples?
My wife and I have been married for 38 years, and I have to say communication is the most important key. When we married, she wasn’t fluent in English, and I wasn’t fluent in her language. There was no Google Translate back then. We had several English-Portuguese dictionaries in our home. We had to learn to communicate on a basic level. We worked hard at it, and it paid off. As a minister, I’ve done a lot of marriage counseling, and poor communication opens the doors to other issues.
