Allison Davis - The Rolling Pin

Tell us a little bit about you, and how you got started!

Both of my grandmothers were great cooks. When I was in high school I would make their recipes and dream about one day having them in a storefront. I didn’t want to do anything else so I decided to go to culinary school for baking and pasty. I graduated from Sullivan University with an Associate’s degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. After graduating I worked at 2 bakeries and a cupcake chain before starting my own business. A majority of my business has come from family, friends and word of mouth.

What services do you offer and/or what do you specialize in?

I make any baked item you can think of from fudge pie to wedding and birthday cakes to banana bread. For weddings I offer wedding cakes, dessert bars, cupcakes, and groom’s cakes.

How did you get started in weddings?

My first wedding cake was for a friend’s aunt and I delivered it all the way to Glendale, Kentucky. Ever since I have loved making wedding cakes. I’m so happy that I get to be part of that important day in a couple’s life.

What makes your business unique?

My business is unique because everything is custom made based on what the customer wants. I also still use several recipes from both of my grandmothers to this day.

What is your favorite part of working with couples?

I love how excited couples get at cake tastings. It’s fun to see them pick the different flavors they want to try and then decide which is their favorite. It’s so rewarding when a couple loves the cake I’ve made for them.

One piece of advice for couples?

My advice to couples: Don’t forget to have fun throughout the process and enjoy this time in your lives.

Coffee, tea, wine/cocktail?

I love coffee, white or red wine and Moscow mules.
