As we continue our Design Gallery Series, we’re excited to spotlight the Head Table from the 2026 Happily Connected Wedding Showcase, designed by Sister Events. Bold color, thoughtful details, and musical inspiration came together inside the National Museum of African American Music, and we’re excited to share the elements and creative partners behind the look.

Design Inspiration from Sister Events
For the head table, our inspiration came from more than just the stunning color palette of the Happily Connected Wedding Showcase and the museum itself; it was also deeply influenced by the rich musical legacy celebrated by the National Museum of African American Music. We wanted to capture that spirit by reimagining the classic jazz club aesthetic with a modern, elevated twist.
To bring this vision to life, we dressed a semi-circle table in luxurious black majestic linens, creating a dramatic foundation. Crisp white dinnerware and polished silver utensils added a clean, timeless contrast, while classic martini glasses provided by Grand Tents & Events introduced a subtle nod to vintage lounge culture.
The bold, vibrant color story truly came alive through the floral design by Bluebird & Co., whose arrangements added depth and personality to the tablescape. To enhance the ambiance, we incorporated lamps from our own inventory, casting a warm, intimate glow reminiscent of a late-night jazz setting.
Personalized details elevated the design even further. Chloe & Co provided custom Bride & Groom vinyl chargers that added a playful yet refined touch, and Beautiful Dance Designs created cohesive menus and stationery that seamlessly tied the entire vision together.
The result was a head table that felt both sophisticated and soulful, a perfect harmony of modern design and timeless musical inspiration.

Floral Design Inspiration from Bluebird & Co.
I wanted my designs to mimic the colors and textures of jazz music, so for inspiration, I turned to the work of artists like Sarah Kraning with Sound-to-Color Synesthesia; the neurological phenomenon of seeing shapes and colors while listening to music.
To create something that mimicked the ribbons, bursts, and clouds often depicted in her art, I started with a soft, billowing background of Ming Fern, then punctuated it with electric stems of delphinium and trumpeting orange lilies. Some pieces of hanging amaranth were also used to imitate musical runs and flourishes.

Stationery Design Inspiration from Beautiful Dance Designs
For the Sweetheart Table, the inspiration came to me as soon as I joined the showcase. Susan mentioned the Head Table would have a 1920s/Frank Sinatra feel, so I decided to put a Gatsby-type spin on the stationery. I knew I wanted it to have a very symmetrical style with an Art Deco vibe, yet remain simple. I originally planned for a black and gold palette, but Aly and Megan suggested silver instead, and it was PERFECT.
I was able to extend that theme to all pieces of the invitation suite, including the menus, which had a very unique style. The menus were circular, attached with grommets, and could be fanned out to see the different details on each card. Finally, the envelope liner used a design element that appeared throughout the suite, and I arranged it in a seamless, repeating pattern to cover the entire liner. I felt that, even though the stationery had a limited color palette, the florals, theme, and overall vibe helped it come to life even more, and it all turned out beautifully!
