Nestled among the rolling hills of Tennessee, Drakewood Farm set the perfect stage for John and Amalie’s enchanting wedding day. With its historic charm and lush outdoor spaces, the venue provided a breathtaking backdrop for a celebration that was both elegant and heartfelt. Keep reading to hear what Amalie had to say about their beautiful day!
Tell us about your Love Story!
John and I met in medical school at Vanderbilt! We did a few years of long distance when both of us were in residency but came back to Nashville for our wedding since it was obviously an important city to us both.
Tell us about your engagement!
It is also a story that heavily features Nashville! I was visiting John for my birthday and Valentine’s Day. We had breakfast at our favorite spot (Noshville in Green Hills, where we are regulars!) and went for a hike at Radnor Lake, and that’s where John proposed! We spent the rest of the day celebrating with friends and family and then had dinner at Amerigo (another favorite!)
Tell us about your dress.
Gown and veil are from Olia Zavozina! I was very indecisive when it came to looking for a dress. In the end, Grace from OZ Bridal pieced together a custom dress using parts from two different dresses! Added some lace sleeves from the extra material, a waterfall veil, and Ted Baker blue floral heels!
Tell us about your experience working with Braids and Blush.
I found Caitlin on Facebook! I was very cognizant of the fact that our wedding was in the hot Nashville July sun, which meant humidity, frizz, and sweat. I picked Caitlin because she had lived and worked in Hawaii before and therefore knew that she had experience tackling all of the elements. She is simply the best. I had never looked that good in my entire life and probably never will again. She made me feel like a princess and calmed all of my nerves throughout the whole process.
From Caitlin owner of Braids and Blush
Amalie was such a sweet bride. She really cared about everyone around her and made sure her vendors were taken care of.
We did not do a trial for makeup, just hairstyling. We tried a few different hairstyles at her trial and ultimately decided to keep all of her hair down, as that is how Amalie feels the most comfortable and confident. Amalie wanted her hair styled in a very classic/Hollywood way. I kept the curls very loose and bouncy and added a lot of volume as well. My HOT Tools 1.25-inch curling iron worked wonders for this! But the key to achieving a hairstyle like this is all in the prep. I have found that if the hair is not prepped the correct way, it is guaranteed that the style will not hold more than a few hours. So, I made sure to add plenty of time to our schedule to complete the proper prep work!
For her makeup, Amalie wanted it to stay very natural. At work, she hardly wears any makeup. She knew she wouldn’t feel comfortable with a traditional full face of bridal makeup. Her inspiration was a more traditional Korean style of makeup. Very light on the skin, with glowy and peachy tones throughout. And that’s exactly what we did! It turned out better than either of us could’ve imagined. Once her skin was well prepped for the makeup, we used Saie Beauty Star glow gel before foundation to give her the glowy base she was looking for. Then, the Haus Labs Pomelo Peach blush was the perfect shade to tie in the peach tones from her eye shadow and lipstick color. I also used Ardell Beauty’s 421 false lashes, cut in half, on her eyes. We were obsessed with them! They looked so beautiful on her eye shape and gave her just enough length and fullness while still looking natural.
What was the vision & theme for your wedding?
The theme was “One Long Brunch”…only slightly kidding…it’s an Office reference where someone makes fun of Andy for always dressing in pastels. But that was the color scheme we were going for! Lots of pastel colors! The bridesmaids’ dresses were all in pastel shades of green, blue, and purple. Florals and candles in abundance. Drakewood Farm’s team made it so easy for us to pick out all the details, and they were stocked to the brim with decoration options. I just had to give them a general vibe and let them put together the masterpiece. I’m particularly fond of the wedding arch, the table decor, and the bouquets. The ceremony took place in a secluded wooded area, and the reception was held in their barn, which was very “rustic chic.” They thought of everything, and I couldn’t be happier. Music was also very important to us, so there were many movie score pieces playing as the guests arrived, and the processional music was from Pride and Prejudice.
Tell us about your day.
There were many miracles that happened on our wedding day. It was the weekend of the national Crowdstrike outage, so many flights were canceled or delayed, but thankfully, almost all of our guests still made it. On the day of, there was a flash rainstorm one hour prior to our ceremony. Our guests, who were driving from Nashville to Drakewood Farm, were traveling at 20 mph on the highway due to the heavy rain. But when they arrived at Drakewood, the sun was out, and the outdoor ceremony area was completely untouched. The storm basically went right around Goodlettsville!!
Also, shout out to Glenai Gilbert and Jonathan Ladage! Not only were they incredible photographers and videographers who captured all of the elements and small details of our wedding, but they were also so supportive the whole day. Glenai has the most calming and fun presence that she took away all of my nerves, and it felt like we just got to hang out and laugh together all day. The photos speak for themselves, but I couldn’t imagine it any better.
Congratulations John & Amalie!
