Tell us a little bit about you, and how you got started!
From a young age I have always been a creative type. I always liked to draw, paint, write, take photos etc. I remember being fascinated with cameras and was always messing with my parents cameras, until they bought me my own. Around 2008, I got my first DSLR and from then on I was constantly taking photos! I knew I always wanted to work in some sort of “media” business, so I graduated from The University of Tennessee (go Vols!) in 2012 with a degree in Communications, so I now work full time in Marketing and do photography as a side job. I don’t have a lot of formal training in photography, but I believe that I’ve always had an “eye” for it, which I believe is very valuable and is hard to learn.
What services do you offer and/or what do you specialize in?
I have experience in many types of photography, but the bulk of what I do is engagements, families and babies. I have shot a few weddings, but I enjoy the smaller, more intimate shoots more.
How did you get started in weddings?
I started off doing engagement photography, which is what led me to shooting weddings. But I still haven’t done very many weddings yet, but would love to get more experience in it. I prefer shooting smaller, more intimate weddings.
What makes your business unique?
I am all about “natural” photography. I try not to do a lot of posing, I want things to look at natural as possible. My favorite are candid shots, such as a couple sharing a real laugh about something.
What is your favorite part of working with couples?
I love making the experience really fun for the couples. I know having your photo taken can be awkward, but I always do my best to make it fun. I want couples to be themselves because I believe that is when you capture the best photos.
One piece of advice for couples?
Just have fun together. One of my favorite things about my husband and I’s relationship is that we’ve always been able to have a good time, no matter what we are doing.
Childhood career aspiration?
As a child I wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved animals (and still do). I currently have two bunnies and a cat that are my babies.
Coffee, tea, wine/cocktail?
None. I’m a beer girl through and through! Give me a hoppy IPA and I’m a happy girl! If I have to choose a cocktail, it would probably be a spicy bloody mary.
Hidden talent?
I’m not sure if this is really a talent, but I can pretty much sleep anywhere. As long as I’m semi-comfortable I can fall asleep. My mom has told me that I never skipped nap time as a kid and would sometimes fall asleep in my food.
